What is the point of thumbing down a Youtube comment? (Technology)

by Amped Up, Wolverhampton, Sunday, November 24, 2019, 20:00 (22 days ago)

Like I don't understand the point in thumbing down a comment in the comment section on Youtube?

It doesn't deduct a thumb up from that user's comment and you cannot sort the comments into most liked or most disliked so what is the point? what is the behind the scenes mechanism that happens when you thumb down a comment?

Didn't know whether to put this in general or technology sorry.

You can sort by top comments though which is where the thumbs down would be used to sort the order of the top comments I would have thought :-dunno

Like for example if comment (A) got 500 thumbs up and 501 thumbs down it would then be below comment (B) which got 5 thumbs up and 0 thumbs down when sorting using top comments I would assume.

I used to think giving a thumbs down had an effect on the top comments but I don't think that is the case. Personally I think all it does is once a comment gets a certain number of dislikes it probably gets removed or flagged for review.

I don't think it affects anything it's more a placebo effect to make you feel good that you down voted a comment but really has no impact.

Youtube should have done it so that the thumbs down number is visible or the thumbs up number can go into negative numbers. But they don't want people feeling bad and getting triggered and committing suicide over getting dislikes. It's a typical Youtube liberal decision.
