DNA Sites Cannot Be Trusted (Conspiracy / Strange)

by Master Squirrel, Thursday, November 07, 2019, 15:04 (80 days ago)

Have you been foolish enough and paid to have your DNA stored on the Police Database?

The two largest sites, Ancestry.com and 23andMe, have long pledged to keep their users’ genetic information private, and a smaller one, GEDmatch, severely restricted police access to its records this year.

Last week, however, a Florida detective announced at a police convention that he had obtained a warrant to penetrate GEDmatch and search its full database of nearly one million users. Legal experts said that this appeared to be the first time a judge had approved such a warrant, and that the development could have profound implications for genetic privacy.

“That’s a huge game-changer,” said Erin Murphy, a law professor at New York University. “The company made a decision to keep law enforcement out, and that’s been overridden by a court. It’s a signal that no genetic information can be safe.”

Looking at their website you would have to be :-crazy to use it anyway. It doesn't look very professional, they use a gmail email address and they have these snippets in their terms

The information we collect automatically is statistical data and does not include personal information. We use this information solely for internal purposes, such as to improve our Site.

23andMe are basically Google and they farm out the testing to third party companies who probably have terrible privacy practices but you won't know that

https://www.onecoolthing.today/index.php?id=3389

From the 23andme terms (2015)

"Information we share with third parties i.General service providers. We share the information described above in Section 1 with our service providers, as necessary to provide their services to us. Service providers are third parties (other companies or individuals) that help us to provide, analyze and improve our Services. For example, we work with third-party laboratories and contractors to process and analyze your saliva sample for purposes of generating your Genetic Information.

NOTE: Our service providers act on 23andMe’s behalf. While we implement procedures and contractual terms to protect the confidentiality and security of your information, we cannot guarantee the confidentiality and security of your information due to the inherent risks associated with storing and transmitting data electronically.
For example, to learn more about our third-party laboratories

Their terms have changed since but just having a quick scan they seem to still use third party companies yet their terms seem less obvious about it now.
