Have you ever Microinvalidated anyone? Tell Us About It (Conspiracy / Strange)

:-hehe

Microinvalidations are characterized by communications
that exclude, negate, or nullify the psychological thoughts,
feelings, or experiential reality of a person of color. When
Asian Americans (born and raised in the United States) are
complimented for speaking good English or are repeatedly
asked where they were born, the effect is to negate their
U.S. American heritage and to convey that they are perpetual
foreigners. When Blacks are told that “I don’t see
color” or “We are all human beings,” the effect is to negate
their experiences as racial/cultural beings (Helms, 1992).

What is microinvalidation?

If you’ve never heard of the term before, “microinvalidation” is a hyponym of microaggression, the normalized behavior that demonstrates hostility and negative stereotypes of marginalized racial groups. Coined by Dr. Derald W. Sue, a psychology professor at Columbia University, microinvalidation communicates that the racism and offensive remarks catapulted towards people of color is unjustified due to a supposed "race-free" world.

So being a white person if I walk down the high street in Nigeria sticking out like a sore thumb and a group of black people come up to me asking where I was born that would mean they were microinvalidating me right? Or does it not work for white people? :-whistle

So if I go up to a hijab in Britain and ask her what the weather is like in Saudi Arabia that would be a "microinvalidation". Got it, now I just need to go find a walking hijab :-devil

I've asked white people in my own country where they were born so asking a Japanese looking person in a predominantly white western country where they were born is not the end of the world. I'm pretty sure western looking white people who were born in Japan have been asked by Japanese people where they were born. Asian countries are far more racist against foreigners than America is.
