Who has seen Turbulence? can you explain this? Ray Liotta smashed the autopilot wiring box with an axe which knocked out the autopilot. How then did the female flight attendant use the autopilot to land the plane at the end of the movie?

I looked at my copy, after she crashes through a few rooftop buildings the pilot on the ground helping her land says over the intercom "auto-pilot backup should be engaged now" or something like that and takes her through how to set it again.
