Why Does My PlayStation 4 Game Saves on PlayStation 5 Not Automatically Backup To The Cloud Even Though I Have PlayStation 5 Set To Do That? (Gaming - Sony)
Playing solely on my PlayStation 5
I finish a dedicated PlayStation 5 title and close the game it automatically uploads the save to the cloud.
When I finish a PlayStation 4 title and close the game it DOES NOT automatically upload the save to the cloud
Yet in the save settings area under the PlayStation 5 and under the PlayStation 4 tabs I have it set to automatically upload?

From my experience if you have enabled automatic game save uploads for both PS5 and PS4 on the PS5
PS5 saves get uploaded automatically straight away when you close the PS5 game software you are playing.
PS4 on the other hand only get uploaded automatically if you put the PS5 into sleep/rest mode (amber light)
Why PS4 saves can't just upload automatically when you close the PS4 game I don't know 
but it is Sony after all, they never do anything simple and logical.
I tend to manually upload the PS4 save when I close down a PS4 game because I don't ever use the sleep/rest mode.

PS4 game saves on the PS4 didn't automatically upload either did they? the console did it in rest mode there too or at least that's how it worked for me. Maybe it uploaded them at a certain time but it definitely didn't upload the save straight after closing a game.
As for PS5 I know for a fact every PS5 game I have the saves auto upload straight away after closing the game which is how it should be done.

So I just did a test on PS5 using the R-Type Dimensions PS4 game.
I have auto updates enabled and auto game save uploads enabled for PS4 and PS5 games
The last cloud save is showing as 20th June the last time I played it
I launched the game and played for a bit then closed the game
The cloud save was still show 20th June
I turned the PS5 completely off then turned it back on
The cloud save was still showing 20th June
I put the PS5 into rest mode then left it a couple of minutes and turned it back on
The cloud save was showing 22nd June 
So yeah, PS4 saves seem to only upload automatically when the PS5 is in rest mode. Even turning the console off and turning it back on doesn't update the cloud save.
