From the gameplay trailer I watched Mafia II just looks like a re-release with bumped up framerate. It hardly looks any better at all :-thumbsdown

Not sure about the first game I haven't seen any gameplay of that.

Somebody on Steam wrote this which sums it up:

Mafia 1 Definitive Edition is a complete remake built up from scratch using Mafia 3's game engine
Mafia 2 Definitive Edition is an HD remaster with some lighting and texture upgrades.
Mafia 3 Definitive Edition is just a repacked bundle with base game + season pass.

Which is probably why you get Mafia 2 + 3 Definitive for free if you own those games already in your Steam library as they just threw some hd textures in and bundled all the dlc.

Whereas Mafia 1 Definitive Edition you have to buy again as they basically took time to rebuild the whole game
